Blackbird 2025 - 2026

Mrs Master

Welcome to Blackbird Class

A huge welcome to Blackbird Class from Mrs Hailwood, Miss Johnstone Miss Noon, Miss Jackson, Miss Robinson and Miss Cowgill, who all work in the class at different times. Our Year 1/2 curriculum is full of topics that engage and enthuse the children to investigate, discover and explore; and our focus is on building those strong foundations to enable us to be ready for our KS2 journey through the school.

We invite our children to take a learning journey every day that challenges their curious minds, to help them reach their full potential.

Homework in Blackbird

Look what we've been up to in Blackbird

Blackbird Class looked fantastic in their book character costumes and comfy clothes for reading! There was a full range from The Highway Rat to Fantastic Mr. Fox and everything in between. Throughout the day, the children enjoyed swapping their favourite stories, creating a ‘Read Your Way’ bookmark, responding to the wordless story ‘La Luna’, hearing… Read more

Blackbird Class enjoyed developing the skills needed to play invasion games in P.E.

Blackbird Class had fun working digitally to create pictures and patterns. They used different filters, colours and shapes.

In maths, we investigated the number of edges and vertices on 3D shapes by making them from straws and playdough. The straws were the edges and the playdough the vertices. Some of the shapes made ideal hats! Click for more photos!

Blackbird Class enjoyed the Santa Dash and collected lots of sponsors.

We enjoyed wearing our uniforms back to front and inside out and raising money for Children in Need.

Blackbird Class have been studying the paintings of Giuseppe Arcimboldo who creates faces from paintings of fruits and vegetables. After some work on colour mixing, they painted fruits and vegetables, then worked in pairs to create the faces. Click to see more!

In science, we have been using elastic bands and card to investigate how our muscles contract and relax.

Warming up in P.E. with Miss Noon. It's great to see how smart we look in our P.E. kits!
